Hertz in Hannover
You will find the city of Hannover (or Hanover) in the centre of northern Germany, about 180 miles west of Berlin. It stands on the River Leine and is capital of the state of Lower Saxony. If you have a rental car in Hannover, you will soon find it an important road hub for the German motorway network. The major A2 and A7 Autobahns intersect just outside the city, meaning it is easy to head off in all directions quickly. The local trunk roads also form a loose ring road round the city, helping you escape the worst of the jams. The main attractions are found in the old central heart of the city, near the river.
Hannover has a reputation based on its universities, medical school and trade fairs, but it also has some great visitor attractions too. Start with the best known sight, The Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen, a spectacular series of historic parks and formal gardens. This extensive green area includes a bird and butterfly collections, an aquarium, greenhouses and elegant period pavilions. If you have a hire car in Hannover it is easy to get from the gardens to the Old Town district, which is full of restored historic buildings grouped around narrow streets. Elsewhere look out for Hannover's acclaimed zoo and the Expo-Park theme park.
