You'll find an interesting mix of traditional life in the countryside and mountains with modern culture and sophistication in the many industrial cities. There's a great variety of attractions: to the southwest is the Black Forest, to the south east are the Bavarian Alps and to the north are sandy beaches and islands. The capital of Berlin is the major sight though: the highlights include the historic landmarks, the shops, nightlife and culture. Elsewhere, the historic parts of cities like Cologne, Dresden, Heidelberg and L'beck are big draws for visitors.

There are no major surprises though: most of the driving regulations in Germany are similar to the rest of Europe. Beware that police can issue on-the-spot fines and have the authority to confiscate cars if you can't pay. Be reassured that the road network is comprehensive and the roads are generally very good quality. Note, however, that many motorways require toll payments. There are sections of some autobahns that have no speed limits so pay special attention, particularly when changing lanes.
