In Rome, there are many great examples of ancient Roman architecture, including the Coliseum where the imperial games were held. Near Naples, in the south of the country, Pompeii and Herculaneum are two incredible examples of towns that were captured in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 BC.
