Hertz in Pisa
The city of Pisa stands near the west coast of northern Italy. It is approximately 58 miles west of Florence and 220 miles north of Rome. The city has grown on both banks of the Arno River near its mouth. It was once an important port. If you are renting a car in Pisa, you will find it is a lively university city with plenty to see and do. The road system is well-designed and it is easy to take the short four-mile drive to the sandy beaches, explore the historic walled city of Lucca 12 miles away or drive into the woods and dunes of the neighbouring San Rossore Regional Park.
Pisa is famous, of course, for one architectural malfunction. Its Leaning Tower is a world-renowned sight that you will be able to spot from many parts of the city. If you rent a car in Pisa, you will find there is plenty to see and do, but you would be wise to start with the Tower. You will find it stands among a spectacular complex of medieval buildings including the Pisa Cathedral, the St John Baptistry and the Camposanto Cemetery. Elsewhere, explore the banks of the Arno, which are lined by ancient palaces and covered walkways. Watch out too for frequent market stalls and lively festivals in the streets, and the nightlife is particularly vibrant thanks to a large student population.
