Hertz in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is famous internationally for its canals, bicycles and liberal atmosphere. The Netherlands' capital and biggest city stands in the north-western corner of the country. If you rent a car in Amsterdam you'll soon notice it stands amid very flat countryside and 60 miles of canals and waterways, including the large ship canal that connects to its own port on the North Sea. The city comprises more than 90 islands. Drivers will be grateful for the ring road of motorways that helps them dodge the worse of the jams. There's also an inner ring road closer to the centre.
Today's Amsterdam is a major world commercial and financial centre, and attracts millions of visitors. If you rent a car in Amsterdam you'll be able to reach all of the central sights and enjoy the sights in the rest of the Randstad, including The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht. The city's highlights include the picturesque canals of course, and also an array of impressive art galleries and museums. The pick is probably the Museumplein, home to the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum, which houses the world's largest collection of his work. Look out too for Anne Frank's House and a branch of Russia's famous Hermitage Museum.
