Hertz in Rotterdam
Rotterdam is the Netherland's second biggest city and the largest port in Europe. It stands about halfway up the west coast of the country, 50 miles south of the capital Amsterdam. If you hire a car in Rotterdam you'll find it's a large, modern city built around the waterways and islands of the Meuse-Rhine-Scheldt delta. The outer road network provides easy access to the rest of the country, with motorways heading towards The Hague, Amsterdam, Utrecht and beyond. Most of the city is on the northern side of the Nieuwe Maas River but numerous bridges and tunnels help ensure you won't get held up by traffic.
Rotterdam is famous for its extensive docks modern architecture, and if you have a rental car you'll be able to explore many of the waterways and islands to the west of the city, right out to the sea at the Hook of Holland. Back in the city itself there's a lively contemporary atmosphere, with skyscrapers along the water's edge and landmarks like the towering Euromast Observation Tower to spot. There's a spectacular restaurant and visitor deck halfway up. In the city centre is the Museumpark, which houses a Natural History Museum, Cultural Centre and the acclaimed Van Beuningen Museum of European art.
