Tilburg lies in the middle of the southern part of the Netherlands, just five miles north of the Belgian border and 70 miles south of the capital Amsterdam. It's a university city and renowned for its ten-day funfair every July. If you have a hire car in Tilburg you'll be able to explore the layout of the city. You'll see the Centrum area is actually in the southeast of the city and surrounded by a handy inner ring road, the Ringbahn. There' a loose outer ring of trunk roads to help you avoid the worst of the traffic, and the quick motorway access to Eindhoven and 's-Hertogenbosch.
Tilburg's main visitor attraction is the De Pont Museum, a well-respected contemporary art gallery, and several music festivals held in the town. Get a hire car in Tilburg and you'll find it's easy to take in all the museums, parks and forests and to explore the other sights too. Attractions include the quirky De Oliemeulen Zoo and the Donge Valley through the west of the city, where you can spot Highland cattle grazing. Further afield look out for the Fairy Tale Forest and Efteling Theme Park in Velkenburg and the arid sands of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park.
