Hertz in Glasgow
Glasgow is Scotland's largest city (and the third-largest in the United Kingdom) and is located just short of 50 miles to the west of Edinburgh. It once was a major centre for the country's shipbuilding industry which was based around the River Clyde. However, in the 20th and 21st centuries, it has come to rely more on service industries for its economy. Renting a car in Glasgow will mean you can take in all the city has to offer. It is home to one of the UK's best known schools of art and the influence of the famous 19th-century architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh can still be seen in many places around the city, including at the famous Willow Tea Rooms.
Near to the university in the west end of Glasgow, you will find the grand and imposing Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The attraction has a truly eclectic collection of items on display, from stuffed animals to fine works of art and from a genuine Second World War Spitfire plane to artefacts from Glasgow's past. Rent a car in Glasgow and you will also be able to venture a little way out of the city to visit the Burrell Collection. This huge collection of art, furniture and ornaments was gathered from all around the world by a rich industrialist called William Burrell, who donated it to the nation in 1944.
